The Status Change dialog is used to sign in and out of the office:
Details:
The Status Change dialog is one of the most powerful and
important features of StatusView, and is used whenever you
wish to change your status or personal comment. You open the
Status Change dialog from the main display by clicking
on your own dedicated status toolbar button, located directly
below your name, as shown here:
There are three types of information which you
can specify in the Status Change dialog:
- Your new status, such as "In", or "Out To Lunch"
- Your expected return or "Until" time, such as "30 minutes", or
"Tomorrow 8:30 am"
- Your personal comment, such as "I'll be leaving early today."
Since the Status Change dialog is one of the most frequently used
features of StatusView, it provides several different ways to specify
information. Each user will find their own "best way" to use this
dialog efficiently.
If you've read this far, please take a few
extra moments to read all of the information which follows. You may
even want to read it twice!
We understand that even those of us with the best intentions may find
it tedious, at times, to go to the trouble of updating our status when
we're in a hurry. For this reason, we've expended a great deal of time
and effort to streamline the process of changing your status. If you
decide to try StatusView, a few extra minutes taken to understand the
"in's and outs" of the Status Change dialog will make a tremendous
difference in how efficiently you can check in and out of the office
Note the following:
- The new status can be chosen by:
- clicking on a status icon
- clicking on the descriptive text adjacent to an icon
- selecting from the status dropdown list
- The "until" time can be specified by:
- direct entry of an absolute time such as "1:15pm" or
"Tomorrow 9am" or "1/5 8:15a".
- direct entry of a relative time such as "55 min".
- using the "day", "hour", and "5 min" spinner buttons to
adjust the currently displayed time in 1-day, 1-hour, or
5-minutes increments.
- choosing a QuickSet time from the "until" dropdown list.
QuickSet offers choices such as "in 30 minutes", or "next workday".
- Double-clicking on the chosen status icon if an Auto QuickSet
has been configured for that status.
Auto QuickSet is one of StatusView's most powerful features
which is explained below.
- The personal comment can be permanent or for one-time use:
- A permanent comment remains until it is explicitly removed.
- A one-time comment is automatically erased the next time your
status is changed.
- Information about who, when and where the
last status change was made from is shown at the bottom of the dialog.
Saving time and mouse clicks with Auto QuickSet
The Auto QuickSet feature takes advantage of the fact that most people have
regular habits, such as going to lunch for one hour, or coming into the office
each day at a particular time. You configure Auto
QuickSet only once for a
particular status, and then StatusView remembers your habits.
Here are two examples:
First, you configure your personal settings, one
time only:
- When you take a lunch, you usually are out for 45 minutes. Configure
an Auto QuickSet of "in 45 minutes" for the status "Out To Lunch".
- You work Monday through Friday, and start at 8 am on every day except
Wednesday, when you start at 9 am. Configure an Auto QuickSet of
"next workday" for the status "Out". Then, specify your work days
and starting times.
Now you are ready to use your Auto QuickSets:
- Its 11:45 Monday morning, and you are currently "In", but are ready
to go out to lunch. You bring up the Status Change dialog, and
double-click on the "Out To Lunch" icon. That's it - the
dialog closes, and you are shown as "Out To Lunch" until "12:30 pm".
- Its 5 pm Monday afternoon, and you are ready to go home. You bring
up the Status Change dialog, and double-click on the "Out" icon.
That's it - the dialog closes, and you are shown as "Out"
until "Tomorrow 8:00 am". (When you do this on Tuesday afternoon,
your until time is set to "Tomorrow 9:00 am", according to your
personal starting time schedule.)
Actually, it gets even better...
Whenever you use an Auto QuickSet, you don't really need to open the
Status Change dialog at all! All you have to do is right-click
on your dedicated status toolbar button and
then select your new status from the popup context menu which appears.
