The Find User dialog helps you locate anyone with just a few keystrokes:
The Find User dialog allows you to find any user in any workgroup by typing the first few letters of their last name. Once you have located the desired user, you can instantly see their current status and message information.
This powerful feature is great for receptionists (especially temporaries!), since they don't have to go searching through all workgroups to find someone quickly. A detailed example appears at the end of this page.
Note the following:
Here's just one example of what you can do with the Find User dialog:
Suppose you're a new receptionist, or maybe you work for
a temporary agency, and today is your third day working at this
50-person company, replacing the regular receptionist who just
went on maternity leave. Before leaving, the full-time
receptionist had the incredible foresight to spend thirty
minutes with you, showing you how to use StatusView.
(Come on now - play the game!)
You answer the phone, and the caller asks for "John Williams", but
you haven't yet met anyone by that name. You can't be sure there even
is such a person working here. Of course, in
trying to convey a professional impression, you certainly don't
want to tell the caller this. You could look John's name up on the printed
company directory, which then tells you his phone extension, but instead...
You say "one moment please...", and then you open the StatusView Find Dialog
quickly by either:
Now you start typing "wil". The list jumps to John Williams'
name (he's the only person in the company with a last name that
begins with "wil"), and you instantly see that he is a member of
the "Sales" workgroup, and his phone extension is 233. You also
see that he is "Out Sick" until "Tomorrow 8:00 am". You click on
the "Goto" button, and your In/Out Board switches to the "Sales"
workgroup. Now you can see that there are 5 other people in
Sales, and two of them are in the office at the moment.
The caller responds - "Mary is familar with our account, so I'm
sure she can help me."
You point at Mary's name with your mouse, and her phone extension
appears in the status bar at the bottom of the In/Out Display.
Of course, if the caller wished to leave a message for John
instead, you could have easily opened the
Message Composer and taken the message for John. Either way,
StatusView helped you handle the call efficiently, and the
caller never realized that it was only your third day on the job.
