The 16-bit version of StatusView will also run under
32-bit versions of Windows. However, some product features
will be compromised by running this version in a 32-bit
environment, and it is neither recommended nor supported.
Note that both 32 and 16-bit versions of StatusView can be run simultaneously on different networked workstations, and still share a common database on the network server.
Forgive the obvious, but a network is required for users to share StatusView status and message information between two or more PCs. However, StatusView can also be used on a standalone PC without a network.
A shared directory resource on any machine which can be read and write-accessed by all workstations is required. Since this is the most fundamental capability of a network, most any network should do! Some of the most common networks would be:
On the network server:
Approximately 12MB of space is required on the file server for the StatusView database and other support files as well as the workstation setup files. The workstation setup files are used to install the StatusView application directly from the network server onto each PC workstation. (If you install both 32 and 16-bit versions of StatusView, the total disk space required will be approximately 17MB.)
On the networked client PC workstation:
Approximately 3-5MB of disk space is required on each workstation. Note that many of the support files are used by other common Windows applications, and may already be installed on your PC. In such cases, installation of StatusView may consume as little as 2MB for proprietary files.
On a standalone PC (non-networked installations only):
The total storage required on a standalone PC is the sum of the server and workstation file requirements.
Processor:
Any processor that runs the required operating systems will suffice. Like most applications, StatusView will benefit from a faster processor. For best performance we recommend the following:
Pentium-class - For Windows 2000, NT, 98 or 95
486DX/33 - For Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11
Memory:
4MB minimum for Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups (8MB recommended)
8MB minimum for Windows 95 (16MB recommended)
16MB minimum for Windows NT (32MB recommended)
32MB minimum for Windows 2000 (64MB recommended)
Note: Minimum memory requirements stated may not be sufficient in all cases, depending on system configuration and installed services and applications.

Sound Card (optional):
If your PC is capable of playing WAV files, StatusView can be configured to play custom sounds for status changes and new messages. Otherwise, the standard PC speaker beep is used.
StatusView does not require a programmer or technical network administrator for installation or support. You must know how to read and write files across your network, and how to perform basic Windows program installation.
Once StatusView is installed, it is recommended that someone be designated as the StatusView administrator. In a small organization, this would probably be the receptionist. Larger organizations may wish to delegate this role to someone in the human resources department. The StatusView administrator is responsible for maintaining the username database. This is simply a list of all individuals who will be tracked by StatusView.
During initial installation, all usernames must be entered once. Thereafter, changes need only be made to add new users, or remove those who are no longer needed.
